Music uniform
The Willows State school music uniform is a music shirt (allocated to each child in the music program and stored at the school), navy blue shorts, skirts or skorts, white ankle socks (above the shoe) and black closed in shoes. There is a requirement that the music uniform is worn at all events and performances throughout the year.
Costs involved
The school has 65 instruments available for student loan. If your child is eligible for a school instrument, you will be required to pay a levy of $100 for the year to cover wear and tear of the instrument. Clarinets, flutes, saxophones, trumpets and trombones are available for 1 year only and must be returned at the end of the year. You are required to purchase an instrument after the first year if your child is to continue in the program. If your child is interested in Tuba, baritone, French horn, Bass Clarinet, cello or double bass, these instruments will be provided to your child until the end of year 6 due to their expensive prices. The school does not supply violins, violas and glockenspiels due to their relatively low prices.
If your child is not offered a school instrument you may choose to purchase a new instrument from a recommended music store. All instruments are expensive. However, if a quality instrument is bought, its life expectancy can be 20 to 30 years if looked after. Most retailers will offer student prices on all instruments. Most retailers also have various payment plans available offering the “rent to buy” scheme from $10 - $15 per week. You may also be interested in buying a second-hand instrument in which case you should arrange to have the instrument checked thoroughly by one of our school instrumental teachers.
All children accepted into the program, using a school instrument or their own, will be required to purchase a list of items for that instrument.
