Our school library is centrally located next to the Multi-purpose Learning Centre, near the TCBC, making it a welcoming hub of learning, reading and discovery for all students. The library has continued to grow as a vibrant and engaging space featuring an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction resources, an area for shared reading experiences and computer labs to support student learning.
The library is more than just a place to borrow books. It is a dynamic space that celebrates reading and creativity throughout the year. Students can enjoy a variety of engaging displays, themed activities and special event celebrations, including favourites such as Library Lovers' Day featuring our popular “Love at First Line" mystery book displays, celebrations of National Simultaneous Storytime, Book Week and many more. These experiences are designed to inspire curiosity, encourage reading for pleasure and help students discover new authors and genres.
Students are also encouraged to contribute to the library community through the Student Library Committee, whose members help provide ideas and feedback to make the library an even more engaging and enjoyable place for everyone. To further promote a love of reading, we proudly celebrate the biggest borrower from each year level every term.
Library staff
The library is staffed by a teacher aide and managed by our Head of Department – Curriculum. You will see communications about our upcoming events through the community newsletter and celebrations of student engagement through our school Facebook page. If you have a question about our library or the returning of resources, please email library@thewillowsss.eq.edu.au
Damaged and lost books
When borrowing from The Willows State School library, students are expected to return resources on time and in the same condition in which they were borrowed. All students are required to use a waterproof A3 pouch to help protect library books.
If a resource becomes overdue, borrowing privileges may be suspended until the item is returned. If a book is accidentally damaged, students are encouraged to notify library staff as soon as possible. Please do not attempt to repair the book at home, as many damages can be professionally repaired by library staff without cost.
If a replacement is required, an invoice may be issued to cover the cost of a new resource. Outstanding invoices may result in borrowing privileges being temporarily suspended.
Opening times
The library is generally open to students before school from 8:00 am to 8:40 am and during both lunch breaks. Scheduled class borrowing sessions also take place throughout the school week as part of teaching and learning programs.
