At The Willows State School, we believe every student deserves an education that provides a life of choice, not chance. We hold high expectations for all learners and are committed to ensuring every student is supported to reach their full potential.

Students are encouraged to access and actively participate in learning alongside their similar-aged peers. Success is supported through reasonable adjustments, inclusive teaching practices, and targeted supports that respond to individual learning needs while fostering independence, engagement, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

We are committed to ensuring The Willows State School reflects the diversity of our community and provides a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students, regardless of social, cultural, or linguistic background, identity, or ability.

At The Willows State School, inclusion is a shared responsibility. Support wraps around each student and evolves as their learning needs change over time. Your child's classroom teacher is the primary case manager and should be the first point of contact for discussing your child's learning needs and supports. Classroom teachers work in partnership with the Inclusive Teaching and Learning Team and other support staff across the school to cater for the diverse and changing needs of all learners.

Students with a diagnosed disability, or students identified as requiring additional adjustments under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, will have their supports documented through a Personalised Learning Plan and be captured in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD).

External Documentation supporting Personalised Learning Plans

Documentation outlining a medical diagnosis, strategies to support a diagnosis are invaluable documents for teachers to ensure students are receiving the required support to be successful at school.

Student Information Requests

External therapy providers and medical practitioners may request information from the school to support NDIS therapeutic supports or when investigating medical concerns. This may include classroom teachers completing medical questionnaires or the sharing of relevant educational information such as the Personalised Learning Plan. This information can only be shared with parent/carer permission through the completion of a Third Party Consent to Share Form. If required, please contact the school office via admin@thewillowsss.eq.edu.au

Individual Curriculum Plans

At The Willows State School, Universal Design for Learning (UDL) is embedded across teaching and learning practices, enabling the majority of students to successfully access the age-appropriate curriculum through reasonable adjustments and targeted support.

For a small number of students, an Individual Curriculum Plan (ICP) may be considered when a student is consistently achieving significantly below or above the expected achievement standard for their year level in a particular learning area. ICPs are developed in consultation with parents/carers and are reviewed each semester to ensure they continue to be the most appropriate support for the student's learning needs.

Students working on an ICP continue to learn alongside their similar-aged peers and engage with the same unit context and learning experiences wherever possible. However, assessment and reporting are aligned to the achievement standards outlined within the student's Individual Curriculum Plan.
