Brass Program – Mrs Kelly Clark-Flesser
There are currently 22 students from years 4 – 6 in our brass program learning trumpet, trombone, euphonium, baritone, tuba and french horn.
The Brass ensemble practices weekly.
Woodwind Program – Miss Sarah Hill
There are currently 43 students from years 4 – 6 in our woodwind program learning clarinet, flute, Alto and Tenor saxophone and Bass Clarinet.
Percussion Program – Mr Ian Brunskill
There are currently 19 students from years 4 – 6 in our percussion program. All children learn drums and glockenspiel.
Strings Program – Mrs Caroline Lloyd-Doolan
There are currently 70 students from years 3 – 6 in our strings program learning instruments including violin, viola, cello and double bass.
Concert Band – Miss Sarah Hill
All students who learn an instrument and have achieved level 1 are expected to be part of the concert band. The concert band gives the children an opportunity to improve their musical ability and quality of playing, play with other instruments outside their weekly lessons, have increased friendships and improved social skills. There are currently 35 students in the band who rehearse weekly before school and perform at school parades and various school events. It is made up of the brass, woodwind and percussion groups.
String Orchestra and String Ensemble – Mrs Caroline Lloyd-Doolan
All students who learn an instrument and have achieved level 1 are expected to be part of the String Orchestra. The String Orchestra gives the children an opportunity to improve their musical ability and quality of playing, play with other instruments outside their weekly lessons, have increased friendships and improved social skills. There are currently 26 members in the orchestra. The string ensemble of 23 students is a small ensemble put together to enhance their playing and prepare students for the String Orchestra.
Rock Band – Mr Trevor Schimke
The rock band’s instructional focus is on learning contemporary rock songs, rock performance techniques, stage presence, musicianship skills and performance skills under the guidance of the teacher. The children are selected based on age and musical ability. It was formed to give children the opportunity to take the next step in their musical experiences and improve the student’s performance skills and techniques within a group. The rock band practice weekly and within their sections during lunchtimes. They perform to the school community at parades, the fun fair and musical evenings.
