Computers and technology

Our school a large computer laboratory is situated beside the library, between the administration block and the tuckshop, in the centre of the school.

The school’s computer technician is also housed here.

Information Communication Technologies for learning

The Willows State School has fibre-optic cabling to every building. A new computer lab has been built as part of the Building Education Revolution (BER) funding to extend and improve our library and resource facilities.  The lab enables two classes to work there at once or can be opened to facilitate one very large group. The school also has a number of laptop computers for use in classrooms, allowing teachers and students many options for using computers in the school. Other ICT equipment used regularly for teaching and learning includes data projectors, digital cameras, digital video cameras and interactive whiteboard (IWBs).  IWBs are now available in every classroom in the school thanks to the generosity of the P&C and funding from BER and the school ICTs budget.

Currently every classroom has at least two networked computer workstations and more classroom computers are purchased each year. All networked workstations can not only access a range of CD programs but also can access the internet, e-mail, library and network resources. Teachers aim to use computers as meaningful tools in the learning and teaching process and skills learned one year will be used again in following years to enable students to show what they know and can do.

Each lower school class has its own teacher moderated e-mail account and all teaching staff are contactable via e-mail. Older students have their own internet user account and password.

The school operates on MS Office 2013. Children may complete work on their home computer if they choose and are encouraged to share their expertise with other school community members. In upper school classes, students will complete homework via virtual classrooms.
